The new 'Cloverfield' movie confirms: That's why part 4 of the sci-fi monster series is already something special - Hollywood News

'10 Cloverfield Lane' and 'Cloverfield Paradox' were not originally planned as 'Cloverfield' movies - it looks different from the fourth movie in the series. But this should also differ from the original in one decisive point.

Matt Reeves is now known for masterful blockbusters on a large scale such as "Planet of the Apes: Revolution" and "Planet of the Apes: Survival", and he has even been entrusted with the latest reincarnation of the Dark Knight - "The Batman" with Robert Pattinson is said to be on Coming to theaters March 3, 2022. He probably owes this impressive career to his monster movie "Cloverfield", with which he made his big breakthrough in 2008.

The found footage movie, in which New York is plagued by a tremendous threat, grossed over $ 172 million at production costs of just under $ 25 million and even delighted many handheld camera skeptics. And yet: the franchise, which will soon include four movies, was never planned, especially not in its unusual form. And yet there seems to be no end in sight for the time being:

As the Hollywood Reporter now reports, a new "Cloverfield" movie is in the works. Joe Barton is supposed to deliver the script - and somehow that fits perfectly.

"CLOVERFIELD" AND BATMAN - THAT FITS ANYWAY

"Star Wars 7 + 9" maker J.J. Abrams is back on board and will also produce the fourth movie in the series with his production studio Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures. Matt Reeves, on the other hand, is not part of the project - but Batman's involvement even without him:

Joe Barton is the showrunner on the upcoming "Batman" spin-off series. At the center of the new crime format, which will run in the USA on the streaming platform HBO Max, are the law enforcement officers of the Gotham Police Department.

"CLOVERFIELD 4" - OR RATHER "CLOVERFIELD 2"?

However, Barton's "Cloverfield" movie is not supposed to be shot in found-footage style and thus stand out from the original. Nevertheless, fans of the movie have every reason to hope that we may actually get the first “real” sequel this time.

While both "10 Cloverfield Lane" and "The Cloverfield Paradox" were originally based on standalone scripts that had nothing to do with Matt Reeves' movie and were only shipped into the same universe during production, "Cloverfield 4" may well end up being rather "Cloverfield 2".

In contrast to its predecessors, the fourth chapter of the sci-fi monster saga is conceived as such from the start - and should trigger a certain pressure on Joe Barton and possibly spur him to deliver the first real sequel. Details of the content of the movie are not yet known.
